The final show of our ground-breaking 12th season opens this weekend. A Streetcar Named Desire Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer prize winning masterpiece will be directed by Founding Artistic Director Richard Nelson. The play introduces us to two of the most iconic figures in American theatre, Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski and our production stars professional actors of Actors’ Equity Association and other local OKC theatre scene favorites.

When we say “ground-breaking 12th season” it’s not propaganda! This season we have seen an almost 80% increase in ticket sales from last season and have enjoyed a much higher profile in the community. We owe this success in large part to our new Board of Directors who was headed this past season by Harry Kocurek with energy, vivacity, and an undaunted faith in our company. Harry has resigned effective at the end of this season, and we will sincerely miss him. He will be succeeded by Keith Parker, someone we all have an equal amount of faith in to spear-head the administration of our company for the next two seasons. Keith is a passionate individual who approaches everything with a strategic foresight and a deep passion to bring this company to its full potential.

The past few seasons have been marked with changes, not the least of which has been saying goodbye to our Founding Artistic Director Richard Nelson who brought OKCTC through years of successes and challenges with grace and perseverance. Thank you, Rick, for your many years of faithful leadership and calm direction. Associate Artistic Director Rachel Irick, who Nelson calls “the obvious choice to be the next AD” has already begun her transition to the AD role behind the scenes, but the opening of Streetcar will mark her official beginning in the position.

We’re already heavily involved in launching season 13 with the musical Quilters, so hold on to your hats, folks! This train isn’t about to slow down. If you have yet to join the thousands of others who have enjoyed years of critically acclaimed audience favorites from OKCTC, it’s time you got to know us. Join us for Streetcar July 22-31, and find out why OKCTC is quickly becomming the most talked-about theatre company in OKC and one of the fastest growing arts organizations in the metro.

About 70 volunteers showed up bright and early at 7:30 am this past Monday to appear as extras and help raise money for OKCTC. Some of them stayed for over 15 hours with a positive attitude and smiles on their faces. What an unbelievable show of support! The volunteer spirit among our people is amazing.

If you were among those who helped us, WE APPRECIATE YOU!!! The money you helped raise will provide crucial start-up funds for Season 13. As you know, arts’ funding is being cut across the country, so events like this are very very helpful. THANK YOU!!!

We’re currently working on recruiting another group for a shoot on Wednesday, July 6th. We’re told it will be MUCH shorter day. If you would like to participate, send your name, age range, and general ethnicity to rachel@okctc.org, and we will add you to our list.
